Toulz

Though an ancient city by quar standards–her foundations have been dated back to a thousand
years before the advent of Cythwyn–Toulz has only very recently risen in prominence and importance.
Originally established as a stopover point in the Napol-Parth trade route, for centuries the town was
little more than four walls and a well. At the start of The Long War, however, her fortunes began to
change. While the Coftyrans and Craesilians squabbled over the northern half of Toulmore, Toulz and
the entire Napolyys Plain in general received a much-needed boost. Refugees from the militarized zone
north of the Marzol-Mangore Line quickly quintupled Toulz’s size, both physically and in popula-
tion. This sudden influx of workers allowed the conception and completion of a number of ambitious
projects, including thick, stout walls, vast underground expansion, and perhaps most importantly, the
completion of the Toulz – Loebarry Canal.

This newfound wealth and success did not go unnoticed, however. The vultures to the north saw the
rapidly growing city and, in an effort to both capitalize on her success and prevent the formation of an
effective Toulmorese military, swooped down upon her. Craesilian rhyflers by the thousands laid siege
to Toulz, while Coftyran battleships blockaded the entire Napolyys Plain. Her new walls may have
been stout, but they were not proof against the greed of her neighbors. In fairly short order she fell to
the invaders, and all of Toulmore was again partitioned.

So Toulz remained, the jewel of a nation occupied by three foreign armies, until the rise of Alykinder
and the launching of the Great Crusade. Assisted by Toulmorese volunteers, the joint forces of the
Crusade swept the interloper from Toulmore and drove the Coftyran vessels back to their ports. Paci-
fication was completed in 1761, and the rebuilding commenced in earnest. Toulz took her place as the
new capital of the reunified nation, and with the help of Tokish engineers and advisors both upgraded
Toulz’s defenses and created a new, modern military. Toulmorese tractors and rhyflers can now be
found in the vanguard of every Crusade advance, and the nation itself is secure against all but the
most significant of threats. Great batteries of anti-aero guns protect the city, and a Goana-class air-
ship is permanently stationed above the Napolyys Plain. They are just part of the new ring of concrete
and steel protecting this vital ally of Alykinder and his glorious reformation of quar society.
