Fynrydhad Scout Tractor

The struggle between Fidwog and the Crusade lasted more than a decade with most of the fighting taking place in Fidwog proper. The resources did not exist within Fidwog, nor could they be shipped in by allies, to manufacture large tractors, krates and naval assets. Smaller tractors and kites became the mainstay of the Fraedarl. One popular design was the Fynrydhad scout tractor. Thousands were built in the last decade alone. As Fidwog began to recover economically after the Crusader retreat many Fynrydhad’s became surplus with some being sold to Fidwog’s poorer allies. With the advent of the FOD military arm many of these mothballed tractors formed the core of the newly constituted FOD division’s tractor assets.

The Fynrydhad Scout is a light, one-quar, tractor typically mounting a medium machine gun or scoped rifle. Originally designed for the mountainous terrain of Fidwog proper where a light tractor was required to navigate the steep, rough slopes of Fidwog’s mountains. For operations in Creevin the rough terrain tracks were replaced with a wider and higher profile variant for the mud and grasses of the Creevish plains.

The Fynrydhad is a difficult to handle tractor. It requires all of a quar’s appendages to operate. The tractor is steered with the feet, gears are shifted by hand. The turret is hand-cranked and the gun is also fired by hand. Earning it the nickname ‘Centipede’ in honor of the actual number of limbs required to operate the tractor efficiently. A common modification in the FOD is a mechanism to keep the trigger of the main weapon depressed to allow the hands to be free to aim the gun using the turret crank. This burns through ammo quickly but there is plenty of room on the cargo deck for extra.
